Background:

Dr Ali Tabatabaeian is a Lecturer in Structural Composites in the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering. He obtained his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Glasgow (2021-2024), during which he spent three months as a visiting PhD researcher at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). His doctoral research focused on the development of lightweight, bio-inspired composites for structural health monitoring (SHM) applications.

Following the completion of his PhD, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Glasgow on an EPSRC-funded project titled “Induction Melt Incremental Thermoforming of Advanced Thermoplastic Composites” (2024-2026). He joined 海角视频 in 2026, where he leads the Advanced Composites Laboratory.

Ali’s primary research interests lie in the experimental and computational mechanics of composite materials and structures. To date, he has published over 40 papers in leading international journals and conference proceedings, contributed to four book chapters, and his work has received over 1,000 citations.

Outline of main research interests:

My research spans the full lifecycle of composite materials and structures, from manufacturing and processing to characterisation, structural integrity assessment, and performance optimisation. I combine theoretical, computational, experimental, and machine learning approaches to advance the understanding of composite behaviour and develop intelligent, high-performance, and sustainable material systems. My work addresses challenges across a range of sectors, including aerospace, automotive, renewable energy, and dental technologies.
