Will has spent the last few years working across football, rugby and athletics, supporting athletes through the highs, lows and everything in between. He was part of the Player Care team at Wolverhampton Wanderers, working with the first team right through to the academy. His role was all about making sure players had what they needed off the pitch. Whether that was day鈥憈o鈥慸ay support, helping with logistics, or guidance during big transitions.
One of the things he is proudest of is creating a Midlands Alumni Group with five clubs, giving released players a proper support network instead of leaving them to figure things out alone. He also helped develop the academy’s life鈥憇kills programme and built a 1:1 framework for scholars and U21s to give them more personalised support during key stages of their development.
Before Wolves, Will Houghton worked in South Africa with varsity rugby players at Nelson Mandela University and national鈥憀evel athletes at the Eastern Cape Athletics Academy. He supported athletes with balancing sport and studies, settling into new environments, and preparing for life after elite sport. He also created wellbeing and lifestyle frameworks that shaped how both programmes supported their players.
