At º£½ÇÊÓÆµ Sport, we are deeply committed to nurturing aspiring coaches and practitioners within the UK’s elite sports landscape. Supporting ~800 funded athletes, scholars, and first-team athletes across a diverse range of sports and athletic disciplines. As part of our interdisciplinary sports programme, we offer a unique environment for developing a wide array of skills.

º£½ÇÊÓÆµ Sport is pleased to offer a year-long Performance Nutrition Mentoring and Coaching Programme for aspiring and early-career Performance Nutritionists and Dietitians working in sport.

This programme is designed to support practitioners who want to grow in confidence, strengthen their professional practice, and develop the skills needed to progress within elite and high-performance environments.

What is included?

The programme is designed to be flexible and individualised, with support shaped around your needs across the year. Participants can choose from one of the following monthly options:

  • 2 x 1-hour one-to-one coaching and mentoring sessions.
  • 1 x 1-hour one-to-one coaching and mentoring session, plus 1 hour of support via WhatsApp, email, or phone call as required.

Through the programme, you will have the opportunity to develop:

  • Confidence in professional decision-making.
  • Reflective practice and self-awareness.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Communication skills with athletes, coaches, and support staff.

  • Greater independence and accountability in your role.
  • A stronger understanding of working within elite sport environments.

Who is this for?

This programme is suitable for Performance Nutritionists and Dietitians who are actively working or volunteering in the performance or sports nutrition field and are looking for structured support to develop their career.

Applicants should have:

  • A degree in Sport Science or a related subject.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Performance Nutrition, Sports Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related discipline.
  • SENr graduate or practitioner status, or an equivalent recognised professional registration such as HCPC where applicable.
  • Current involvement in the performance or sports nutrition industry, typically for at least 1–2 hours per week.

Who will mentor me?

Mentoring and coaching will be provided by Andrew Shepherd (Performance Nutrition Lead) and Bethan Crouse (Performance Nutritionist).

Together, they bring extensive experience across Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth, World, European, and professional sport, with a strong background in developing practitioners within elite and development environments.

Andy Shepherd - Performance Nutrition Lead

Andrew leads the Performance Nutrition team at º£½ÇÊÓÆµ Sport, supporting the development and delivery of nutrition across internal and external services. He leads on relationships with key partners both on and off campus. Leading the delivery for swimming and the Centre of Excellence for Boxing. Having previously held roles at Swim England, British Diving, England Athletics, Sheffield Hallam University, and worked extensively in boxing, tennis, triathlon, and athletics. Bethan Crouse

Bethan completed her MSc in Nutrition and Physiology for Sport and Exercise at º£½ÇÊÓÆµ in 2023 alongside a placement within the Performance Nutrition Team. Before joining the team at º£½ÇÊÓÆµ, Bethan completed a BSc in Nutrition from Cardiff Metropolitan, obtaining Registered Associate Nutritionist status. Some of her areas of interest include energy expenditure variability within team sport athletes, nutrition and concussion and the effects of the menstrual cycle on exercise performance and subsequent nutrition considerations. How to apply?

The deadline for submission is Monday 21 December at 12:00 noon.
Approximate start date of week commencing 10 January 2027.

After this process is complete, we will invite a small cohort of potential mentees to discuss their application in more detail. The aim of this will be to explore how we can best support your journey, decide on the best mentor/mentee combinations as well as to understand more about what you are hoping to gain from the experience.

Additional details:

  • Mentees will sign up for 12 months
  • Cost of £120.21 per month. This is payable in Direct Debit or as a lump sum. 
  • Mentees can renew their place at the end of 1 year for a maximum of 3 years on the mentoring and coaching programme.
  • There is a maximum capacity of 6 places per cohort.
